The appearance of sound in small-gauge cinema would not occur until the 1950s. In the 1950s, in fact, magnetic tape made it possible to directly record what was being filmed and then in post-production, i.e. at a later stage and not in direct take, to apply a strip of magnetic tape by sticking it on the support ( whether 8 millimetres, 16 millimetres or later Super8). However, its late introduction, close to the advent of video technologies, will ensure that sound (and especially live sound) will remain a sort of myth, an ideal concept that unfortunately will never be able to be fully brought to amateur small-gauge cinema.
