The market release of the Super 8 came about as a result of Kodak's need to offer a format that was more simply usable by filmmakers by focusing on a system with a cassette loader. A compact system, with the film inside, and which cannot be opened, allowing the film to be loaded without the risk of light damaging the film. Along with the convenience and ease introduced by the new loading system, the Super 8 also differs from the 8 mm in the presence of a battery that replaces the pre-existing spring-loaded charge.
