Single 8 and Super 8: similarities and differences

The Single 8 format was released in the same year as Super 8 and was produced by the Fuji company. It is not clear whether or not one emulated the other as there are so many similarities between the formats that the projectors can work with the same film. The main difference, however, is related to the loader which, in the case of the Single 8, works in the same way as the previous cameras by placing the two reels on the same axis. This allows for all those technical experiments that the low-end Super 8 format did not make possible. Another important innovation that distinguishes the Single 8 is the material it is composed of, i.e. polyester.
