The term "experimental" replaced what was called 'amateur film' on a lexical level. The Cineguffini also needed to distinguish their experimental cinema from avant-garde cinema because it was too marked by intellectual characteristics that they wanted to exclude. This was unique, peculiar and practically only concerned their way of conceiving amateur practice.
