As it is also the event at which Italian potential competitors at foreign competitions are decreed, Montecatini becomes to all intents and purposes the amateur film festival in Italy. And it is the only one, together with that of Salerno and Rapallo, to which newsreels are dedicated. In the press, these three festivals are constantly monitored by critics to evaluate the state of health of Italian filmmaking and to discover top talents who then often end up working as professionals in the film world.
