At the end of the experience of the Cooperativa del Cinema Indipendente, Alfredo Leonardi founded the Videobase collective together with Anna Lajolo and Guido Lombardi, moving towards a militant use of video technology. According to Leonardi, the advent of video presupposes a new way of experiencing and overcoming the undergound experience in a reduced format. Despite this, the reduced-format amateur film remains the most suitable and congenial expressive medium for the production of a private and family cinema that uses the camera for its diaristic and documentary capacity.
