Everyone is there for Vietnam, peace and Joris Ivens, in Reggio Emilia. It is 3 May 1966, the day of the screening of 'Le ciel, la terre', the documentary by the great director screened for the first time in Italy and accompanied by the round table "Documentary and political struggle" organised by the local section of the PCI named after Togliatti and to which are invited, for a discussion with the Dutch documentary maker, the protagonists of national militant cinema, from Cesare Zavattini to Elio Petri, from the Taviani brothers to Pier Paolo Pasolini, from Ugo Pirro to Franco Solinas, from Lino del Fra to Gianfranco Mingozzi and Cecilia Mangini. Le ciel, la terre' is a film about the resistance in Vietnam and the will to live that the population managed to preserve under the bombs. The sequences masterfully shot in 16mm at the Ariosto Theatre by militant filmmaker Franco Cigarini emphasise collective participation and emotion. We are inside the theatre imagining Ivens' words, observing the faces of the many men and women present, being carried away by their applause. Outside the theatre, the city is plastered with posters and banners. Reggio Emilia, Vietnam and Peace.
