Lambrate, 21 November 1928. A little outside, a little inside, an uncertain space on the edge of the city. It is now five years since Lambrate became part of the Milan municipality, but this ancient suburb will remain a place in its own right, lapped by a river that gives it its name, and cut in two by the railway. In any case, from the centre of Milan you can get there comfortably by tram, several tram lines lead to Lambrate. And we do not know which line used, occupying an entire carriage, the merry saraband that right next to the railway is filmed by Guglielmo Baldassini. Who knows if he called them in to film this whirling, double roundabout of which he is undoubtedly the creator and director. The smaller girotondo, of the children, which moves in one direction and is inside, and the larger one, which moves in the other direction and is outside, of the adults. A concentric ballet of rare beauty: a real spectacle and no one knows it yet, but in the no man's land of Lambrate things are done on a grand scale. Paris will respond the next day with the premiere of Ravel's Bolero, as if to reiterate that the centre always wins out over the periphery.
