Festivals do not only provide opportunities to meet and present one's films in film clubs but also constitute a free market place, free of intermediation between producers, companies and FEDIC. This is evident in the newsreels that report on Montecatini, Rapallo or Salerno, portraying numerous images of film enthusiasts intent on trying out cameras and discussing in order to keep abreast of developments in film technology. The companies themselves were extremely aware of this fact and were keen to be present within the context of amateur film festivals to maintain direct contact with their customers.
