Amateur filmmaker Giuseppe Lenzi made this black and white 'studio' film to test his new Canon variable focus zoom camera. He immerses himself in the countryside and nature to do a test, evidently using filters. It may be a study, or perhaps the study of the title is just an excuse: the result is a beautiful bucolic film, where animals, flowers and above all his companion Grazia are filmed with the affectionate feeling of participation and proximity that characterises the cine-amateur, he who loves what he films and etymologically films out of love. Lenzi is more sensitive than the film he uses and it is perhaps for this reason that he has Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony accompany the splendid images. Cinematic romanticism is as good as it gets. And the secret title of this film is therefore pastoral symphony.
