9 December 1953 is the date on which the story told in 'K-14 Military Secret', an amateur fiction film set in Parma at the height of the Cold War, begins. Of the film, inspired by spy cinema, made in 8mm by high school student Giorgio Greci and his friends and with sound recorded separately and synchronised in the projection, we show the first few minutes with the handcrafted and highly original opening credits, and the beginning of the intricate plot, typical of the genre with a stolen military secret, a shootout and an exchange of briefcases. Says Greci, director and actor: "We made the opening credits with glass blackened by the smoke of a candle, you see a gun appear that shoots and breaks the glass, of course we used an air rifle, we had to invent everything. The duck you see in the titles was our homage to the Goldwyn Mayer lion... Our production was called 'La Fiordello Film', Fiordello was the nickname we gave our headmaster. We would show the films in private homes where in return we would ask for contributions to finance the purchase of the films for the next film...'. One wonders what the next film will be and what film genre it will rework. These guys have a way with the material, K-14 was a hoot to make and now to see.
